12 – The belt dryer

Opting’s belt dryer is used on biomass produced in forestry industries, municipal organic waste, sewage sludge and agricultural waste. Biomass wastes with a high moisture content can be dried and used to produce renewable energy. However, it is generally necessary to process, grind, sieve and press the dried form of the waste into a pellet, and then it can be used to replace fossil fuels in existing cogeneration plants. This reduces transportation and storage costs, creates ideal conditions for direct firing and results in optimal granulation properties. The drying process requires less fuel to generate power, which significantly reduces pollutant emissions that would be created by a combustion system using wet biomass. As a result, this technology can provide several economic benefits to an existing or developing process.
